Tourism in Italy



Italy is a very attractive country for tourist, it is the fifth highest tourist earner and most visited country in the world! But why do people visit this country? For its rich art, cuisine, history, fashion and culture, its beautiful coastline and beaches, its mountains, monuments, etc.

Now I will sum up some beautiful tourist attractions, so when you visit Italy, you must see them absolutely!

  • Towers of San Gimignano

Also called the medieval Manhatten. San Gimignano is a village in Tuscany famous for its 14 stone towers. The towers were built to defend the town against enemy attacks. After the plague  the city was destroyed in 1348 and its power disappeared.
  • Manarola (Cinque Terre)

Manarola is one of the oldest towns in Cinque Terre. It exist of five villages known for their beauty. A part of Cinque Terre its beauty is the absence of modern development.  The villages are connected by aths, trains and boats and you cannot reach the village from the outside with a car.
  •  Leaning Tower of Pisa

The world famous Pisa Tower was built over a period of about 177 years. The Tower of Pisa is crooked because of a bad foundation. They never did something about it but the engineers just built higher floors with one side taller than the other as a compensation for the slope. The tower was finished in the second half of the 14the century. Since 2001, the tower is open for visitors and you can climb its 296 steps!
  • Lake Como (Italian Lake District)

A part of the Italian Lake District is Lake Como. It is a very popular area area for its combination of fresh air, water, mountains and good weather. The lake has a very special shape, it looks like an ‘Y’. The two branches on top start in Como, situated in the south-west, and in Lecco, situated in the south-east. The join together in Colico, who lies in the north.
  •  Pompeii

When the volcano Vesuvius erupted on August 24, the town Pompeii was covered with ash. Since then, the city is left in its state from that critical day. That’s what makes Pompeii so spectacular and attractive, so today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy, with approximately 2,500,000 visitors every year.
  • Colosseum
The Colosseum is the largest and most famous amphitheater in the Roman world. It was constructed by emperor Vespasian in 72 after Christ and was finished by his son Titus in 80 after Christ. This building is capable to hold 50,000 spectators, the people could enter the Colosseum through 80 entrances

  1. One of the towns we visited I really liked was Manarola, which is one of the oldest towns in Cinque Terre. The buildings each have a different colour and it's a beautiful view at night, when the lights in the houses burn.
