Being a
tourist in Sicily can be quite interesting. Sicily has a modern side, which
shows Europe’s finest ‘palazzi’ and villas, but most part of Sicily remained
trapped in the past because it is still struggling with Mafia-driven
corruption. But this agricultural side of Sicily shows its hidden art treasures
and national parks. It also preserved the high quality of the cuisine. Anyone with
a large appetite will feel at home on this Mediterranean island.
While
visiting Sicily you will become aware of its distinctive feel and
individuality. The perfect destination for anyone who is looking for a
different cultural experience!
Now,
what is there to do in Sicily? What is there to be seen?
Because
Sicily is an island, the sea plays a very important role. Not only in the daily
life, but also in tourism. You can relax on the many coastal beaches of Mondello,
the Aeolian Islands or Pantelleria. And all year round you can practice different
water sports such as windsurfing or kite surfing.
Sicily
is also known for its natural parks. These beautiful places can be visited in
the form of a guided excursion on foot, on a horse’s back or by riding a
mountain bike. This is a wonderful way to bring some activity into your
vacation.
If you
are interested in cultural tourism, Sicily is the right place for you. It is a
source of knowledge, history, art and culture. Many famous writers such as
Salvatore Quasimodo and Luigi Pirandello used the political and historical
conditions as the setting for their novels. Visiting the places where these
artists lived can give you a better insight in their work.
The Opera
of Marionettes is said to be obligatory when you want to discover some of the
cultural traditions on this island.
Another cultural
tradition is Carnival, the happiest and most colourful annual celebration. Flowered
floats parade along the streets and the people wear their cheerful and
colourful masks.
For
those who want to travel further in time there are the many Greek Temples that
can be visited all over the island. Also the thermal cures, which existed in
Sicily since the Roman ages are a very sought-after destination. In these
thermal spas and wellness centers you can unwind from stress and daily life by ‘spa-ing’,
where they use a mixture of seawater and sulphur water from the Etna volcano.
In my
opinion, Sicily has something to offer for each kind of tourist. Whether you
are looking for relaxation, culture or adventure, this is the perfect
destination.

Sicily was so beautiful! It was an amazing country, with great architecture like "The Opera of Marionettes". It is really a romantic country for lovers and for people who love architecture. If I could, I would do it all over again.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBeautiful country with a lot of tourist attractions! Too bad we didn't visit the country during carnival, that would be nice.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIndeed, it was very interesting to visit this country. We saw a lot of villas. When I have a lot of money,I would also like to live in a villa, with the view of a sea. Hmm, keep dreaming Liesbeth :)
